Absalom Jones Sunday and Redeemer's Jazz Mass

Mark the date!! February 12 is Jazz Mass Sunday, when we will also welcome the people of Bethel AME as our guests at the 10:30am service. The Rev. Sidney Williams will preach. Plan to come - and bring a friend! There will be no Sunday School classes that morning, as the children will be invited to participate in the service.

Flower Dedications

Flower dedication request forms for the new year are now available in the literature rack in the church narthex. Pick up one of these pink forms if you would like to place flowers on either the main altar, side chapel altar or AIDS chapel altar, in memory of a loved one or in thanksgiving for a special event in your life. Completed forms can be placed in the collection plate or mailed to the church office.

Wednesday Lenten Study

This year, Joanna Dewey will lead our Wednesday Lenten Study on "Jesus: then and now." Jesus proclaimed and enacted the arrival of God's rule (the Kingdom of God). What did this mean then and what does it mean to us now? Using our Lenten theme of asking questions, we will focus on three: 1) Who is Jesus for you? 2) Why does he matter for your faith? and 3) How does he matter for your faith-that is how does he affect how you live in the world? Our evenings will include both instruction and discussion around the questions.

The tentative schedule is as follows:

Feb 29th: Introduction & first grappling with the questions

Mar 7th: Jesus' deeds: Miracles, Meals and Community

Mar 14th: Jesus' teaching 1: Parables of God's rule (the Kingdom of God)

Mar 21st: Jesus' teaching 2: Ethics, discipleship, and community instructions

Mar 28th: The Last Supper and Jesus' crucifixion.

Each evening will begin with a soup supper at 6:30 in the parlor, followed by a simple Eucharist in the sanctuary at 7:00, and then the study/discussion back in the parlor from 7:45 to 9:15. You are welcome to come to any and all parts of the evening and any or all of the evenings.

Donations for the Animal Shelter

Animal shelters are more crowded than ever due to these tough economic times. Please remember our animal friends and consider donating much needed supplies. Donations made during the months of January and February will be given to the Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter in East Hanover. Their Top 10 Wishlist for donations are wet cat food, bleach, liquid laundry detergent, leashes (6 foot) and collars (all sizes), 40 gallon garbage bags, non-clumping cat litter, paper towels, Frontline Plus for dogs, Revolution for cats and giftcards (Staples, PetSmart, Target, etc.). They have lots more on their list of things they need. You can check out how to donate at www.njshelter.org
