Small Groups
We gather in various groups to share our stories..
Women’s Group [ back to top ]The Women's Group meets the fourth Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM in the Parish House parlor. We laugh together, cry together, support each other, tell our stories, and sometimes eat chocolate cake! The evening discussion is determined by the group that evening. The group is ongoing, each session stands alone. All women are welcome.
Men’s Group [ back to top ]Meets twice a month on the first and third Mondays of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish House parlor. This group is a cross section of the parish: straight and gay, partnered and single. It is a sharing group with topics chosen by the men themselves. The group meets for 8 sessions at a time. This group is responsible for the Men's Group Dinner, which benefits the Redeemer Organ Fund.
Partners’ Group [ back to top ]Meets in the Parish House parlor on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. All people in committed relationships are invited to attend, to share their stories and to learn from each other. The group chooses the topics discussed. New couples are invited to attend at any time. This group is responsible for the Parish Dance in late winter, open to all members of the parish and their friends. Adult Forum [ back to top ]Meets weekly from 9 to 10:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the Parish House parlor. This group takes on a variety of topics from unpacking some of the richness of the Judeo-Christian tradition to looking at contemporary issues of life. People wrestle with their experience of faith and God. This group is ongoing and invites people to attend at any time.
Racial Dialog Group [ back to top ]Meets jointly with St. Peter's Eracism group to discuss issues of racism and power. This group names racism within and around us and works to actively dismantle racism both within the parish and the community.
Zen Meditation Group [ back to top ]The Empty Bowl Zendo is a community of people from many faiths that meet together in the practice of Zen meditation called zazen (sitting meditation). Zazen is a silent, objectless form of prayer that awakens us to joy and compassion in our everyday lives and can enhance the practice of those from all religious faiths. All people are welcome regardless of faith. Meditation times are Tuesday evenings beginning at 6:25pm and Thursday mornings beginning at 6:40am. This community is led by resident teacher Ray Ruzan Cicetti who received authorization to teach from Robert Kennedy Roshi in 2004. For information on beginning Zen practice or any other questions visit www.emptybowlzendo.org. .
Parish Retreats [ back to top ]These are intentional times when people spend time listening to the voice of the "Holy" both within and around them. A skilled retreat leader conducts these retreats which last over one or two days of a weekend. These are conducted either at the church or the Convent of the Community of St. John Baptist.
