Youth Groups  [ back to top ]

There are two Youth Groups, Junior (ages 10-12) and Senior (ages 13-17). These groups meet every other Sunday after church, and participate in a wide range of activities throughout the year. Participants are part of a sacred listening space where they are able to explore their thoughts and feelings about issues facing them and the world. As part of their Christian formation, they engage in group ministry and outreach, such as collecting canned food for the homeless, or working in the Community Soup Kitchen. Several overnight retreats and field trips are planned each year as well. Those who are nearing confirmation age, are given an opportunity to discern whether this is part of their journey, and for those that chose to, additional activities related to Episcopal traditions and Christian formation are provided.

Redeemer also has a Senior High Forum for grades 9 - 12, which meets after church every other week. The Forum provides a sacred listening space for youth entering High School and those preparing for life after graduation. Topics of discussion are decided collectively, and facilitated by the group leaders. Members of the Forum also serve in leadership roles with the Junior Youth Group and participate in ministry and entertainment activities thrioughout the year.

Nursery  [ back to top ]

Our nursery for infants and toddlers is open on Sundays from 10:15 - 12:15 during the program year, and 9:15 - 11:15 during the summer. It is located in the Parish House next door to the church, in a sole-use space, and is staffed by professional care-givers who are supplemented by parish volunteers.

Sunday School for Grades K - 2nd Grade  [ back to top ]

Our Godly Play program is based on the awareness that children need a special environment to meet and worship God. In this sacred space, teachers tell stories from the Bible and other traditions, stories whose symbols have spoken to all peoples through the ages. The children's Sunday morning experience, which includes the story, replicates the worship experience in a way that is age-appropriate and meaningful to them. Young children encounter God and find direction in life, providing reassurance and building trust.

Sunday School for Grades 3, 4 and 5  [ back to top ]

The program for children in the 3rd through 5th grades is an extension of the Godly Play program, utilizing the All Things New Episcopal curriculum. It uses stories as a way to understand our world and its events. Children learn the meaning of the Christian tradition as one among many valid faith traditions. Hands-on activities such as creative projects and field trips characterize the style of this class. Children learn that it is within their power to make a difference in the living conditions experienced by all the world's peoples.

Middle School and Pre-Confirmation Instruction  [ back to top ]

Children in the 6th - 8th grades learn about the Episcopal faith as part of the Christian tradition.

They receive training to assume roles in worship, and at various times of the year serve as acolytes, readers, and ushers.
This class prepares them for formal Confirmation sessions.

Special Events for Children and Families   [ back to top ]

The annual Christmas Pageant is a high point of the Redeemer calendar and is open to all children. All children can take part in the Blessing of the Animals in the fall, when they bring their furry friends to the celebration of the Feast of St. Francis. Elementary children have the opportunity to participate in other projects, such as collecting money for UNICEF at Halloween, serving the annual pancake breakfast, and baking bread for a Eucharist during the Easter season.

Redeemer also hosts Family Nights, for parents and children to share an evening of food, fun, silly singing, and games a'plenty. Families also have the opportunity to socialize together at the Sunday School picnic in June.
